Terminology

Code systems used for imaging. The SNOMED CT and LOINC codes below were checked on tx.fhir.org; the DICOM modality codes were not. Value sets defined by this guide are listed on the Artifacts page.

Imaging Procedure

Code system Use Notes
NICIP Radiology procedure (modality and body site) National standard for imaging department systems in England; distributed through TRUD; used by the Diagnostic Imaging Dataset and COSD (CR1610). This guide uses the Interweave NICIP CodeSystem https://fhir.interweavedigital.nhs.uk/CodeSystem/Interweave-NICIP (copied, 4833 codes) and value set NICIP (Interweave), following the Interweave FHIR IG. Required on ServiceRequest.code; used on DiagnosticReport.code

Report Category

DiagnosticReport.category uses HL7 v2 table 0074 (http://terminology.hl7.org/CodeSystem/v2-0074), for example RAD (Radiology), CUS (Cardiac Ultrasound), CTH (Cardiac Catheterization), OUS (OB Ultrasound). The table has no endoscopy code, so the category for endoscopy reports is Open (for example SNOMED CT 423827005 Endoscopy, or a local code).
